About me

From a time before I can remember, I have been involved in the visual arts. I was brought up with a pencil or paint brush in my hand, sitting at my mother's feet while she painted.

At the age of 11, I discovered a passion for sculpture when someone gave me a packet of clay for Christmas. This love grew. I eventually studied for a BA Honours degree in sculpture where principally I worked in the media of wood and learned the importance of line, form and space.

Over the years I have worked in different materials and art forms. In 2003 I was taught how to work in stuc under the tutelage of Jean-Jacques Allain. This material has revolutionized my work as it compliments my ideas and gives substance to the subject matter.

I am inspired by the form, shapes and lines of pregnancy and the interior link between mother and baby. I have recently started to work within strong, passive forms such as pyramids, cones, spheres and cubes.

My sculptures are a celebration of pregnancy and reflect my personal experience of it. I have tried to capture, the fulfilment, serenity and wholeness that I felt. The unusual and wonderful contrast of heavy and light, bulky and feminine, introverted and extroverted. There is a contrast between the private inner world - the intimate connection between mother and baby and the public property of the mother’s belly - that desire of others to touch it and stroke it. My sculpture is very tactile and draws the hand towards it in the same way..

Aussi longtemps que je me souvienne, j'ai été concernée par les beaux-arts. Assise aux pieds de ma mère qui peignant un tableau, j'avais toujours un crayon à la main..

Pendant des années, j'ai travaillé des matières et des genres différents. En 2003, Jean-Jacques Allain m'a enseigné la technique du stuc. Cette matière a révolutionné mon oevre car elle est un meilleur support pour mes idées et elle donne de la solidité au sujet..

Je suis inspirée par la forme et les lignes de la grossesse et par le lien intérieur entre la mère et le bébé. J'ai récemment commencé à travailler en intégrent mon sujetdans des formes statiques et géométriques telles que la pyramide, le cône, la sphere et le cube.
